French double make mixed team final in Utah
Salt Lake City (USA)
Sebastien Peineau, the reigning World Archery Champion, and Sophie Dodemont will represent France in the compound mixed team gold medal match in Salt Lake City after beating the USA, 153-152, in the semifinals.
“We just enjoyed it. It’s never over until you sign. If you still have one arrow to shoot, then you can win. We just kept thinking positively like this and it worked pretty good,” said Peineau.
“I made some mistakes, Sophie did, too. Even I shot more nines than her, if we win – I’m fine.”
The French pair trailed the hosts of the third stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup after the first end, but levelled with four arrows left to shoot.
In changing wind, Peineau and Dodemont edged ahead to secure a gold final berth.
It marks the second consecutive trip to the mixed team finals field for Sophie, who took bronze with Pierre-Julien Deloche at stage two in Antalya.
“PJ and Sophie shot really great in Antalya. This time it’s my turn. We shot really great, too, and I’m looking forward to the finals,” said Peineau.
“It’s always good to be back there.”
France faces Russia’s Anton Bulaev and Natalia Avdeeva in the final. Top seed Colombia went out in the quarterfinals, upset by India – who will contest bronze with the US.
The third stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Salt Lake City, USA on 18-24 June.
