Korean mixed team break compound matchplay record
Korea set a third world record of the second stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit in Antalya, Turkey when Kim Jongho and So Chaewon shot a perfect 160 points with eight arrows in the X-ring during mixed team matchplay.
The score beat Belgium in the semifinals and the previous world record (160 6X), held by Italy, by two Xs.
“I didn’t think about [the record]. I just concentrated on the shot as usual. I try never to think about the score,” said So, laughing.
Marcella Tonioli and Federico Pagnoni’s previous record was also set on the Antalya field, back in 2016.
This is the third world record broken by the Korean squad during the competition, after Kang Chae Young and the recurve women’s team broke ranking round records during qualification.
“Kim shot really well, and I really trust him. We trust each other,” said Chaewon.
The Korean pair will face France in the gold medal match in Antalya. With the threat of heavy rain hanging over Friday’s compound finals, So wasn’t worried: “We shoot in the rain all the time. It doesn’t matter for us.”
“I’ve been feeling very good over these days, practice is going great, and I think we will win tomorrow.”
The second stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Antalya, Turkey on 20-26 May.
