Denmark takes compound mixed team gold with perfect finish

Danes Tanja Jensen and Martin Damsbo shot two 38s and two perfect 40-point ends to beat Choi Bomin and Kim Jongho from Korea, 156 to 155 points, in the compound mixed team gold medal match at the first stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China.

“I think it’s just really nice to be able to take home the gold. It shows we’re super strong in mixed teams and it’s just awesome,” said Tanja.

Korea led by one point after the first end, went two points ahead after the second, 78 to 76 points, before Denmark landed a perfect 40 points to tie the match at 116 with four arrows left to shoot.

Kim opened the fourth end with a 10, then Choi followed with a nine.

Tanja and Martin both landed 10s in the X-ring, in the very centre of the target. Korea followed with two 10s. Tanja hit the centre again, leaving Martin needing a 10 to win.

His arrow found its mark.

“It’s not just the last 10 that counts, it’s all the 10s you shot in the match. Tanja shot a lot of 10s, I shot a lot of 10s – and of course it’s nice to shoot the last one, so we have enough to win the match,” said Martin.

Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam from India beat Turkish duo Yesim Bostan and Demir Elmaagacli to compound mixed team bronze.

The first stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Shanghai, China on 23-29 April.
