Joint committee meetings focus on active members, equal opportunities
The latest biennial joint meeting of World Archery’s committees took place at the federation’s headquarters on 16-18 March 2018, where the sports officers worked on a strategy for development over coming congresses.
“This event provides an unparalleled opportunity for our committees to discuss issues that affect our sport,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.
“A recent influx of new committee members – with new ideas and approaches – and a switch to staggered elections has made these opportunities to transfer knowledge and identify opportunities for progression all the more valuable.”
Committees – which have areas of responsibility like target, field and 3D, judging and coaching – assess areas for improvement in the sport, answer procedure questions and may propose rule changes to the membership.
Outcomes from the meetings included:
A renewed commitment to gender equity and a statement of intent to fully implement the International Olympic Committee’s recently-released recommendations.
The improved number of member federations fulfilling active indicators, and the potential introduction of a future scorecard system.
An opportunity to move technical official accreditation tests to an online platform.
Practical improvements to the scoring process at international events.
The constitution and rules group also worked through the latest alterations to the rulebook from congress in Mexico City, ready for the release of the new edition on 1 April 2018.
World Archery’s committees consist of elected officials from member associations around the world.
