Former Mexican head coach José Almanzor dies aged 87

Professor José Rubén Almanzor Martínez, an Olympian and then successful archery coach, passed away on 10 November 2017 at the age of 87. 

Almanzor competed at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games, and won a bronze medal at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He was head coach of Mexico’s archery team for many years, leading the squad at the Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.

In 1996, he was inducted into the Mexican Sports Confederation’s hall of fame and, among other awards thoughout his long career, received Mexico's National Sport Award in 2003 in recognition of his achievements.
