Teddy Bettex, who was named World Archery’s Volunteer of the Year in 2015, died on Friday 9 November after a courageous fight against cancer.
Teddy was the organiser of the World Archery Championships in Lausanne in 1989.
He held many roles in Swiss Archery and the local club over the years, while continuing to contribute internationally – including holding the position of technical delegate for the 1999 World Archery Championships in Riom, France.
World Archery awarded Teddy with a silver plaquette in 2001.
“Teddy was one of the Swiss Archery Federation’s most active archers. He organised a world championships and was a volunteer at whatever event possible,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.
“He was an example for all and well-deserved of the volunteer of the year award in 2015.”
“World Archery, Swiss Archery, the club of Lausanne and his family have lost a great person that represented the Olympic Spirit every day of his life.”
World Archery offers its sincerest condolences to Teddy’s family and friends, and the Swiss archery community.
