IOC approves Russian archers’ eligibility for Rio 2016

Following the release of the McLaren Report and investigations into clean sport practices in Russia, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board asked international federations to assess the eligibility of each sport’s Russian athletes to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In order to be eligible, Russian athletes had to have a record clean of anti-doping sanctions and have been tested internationally in the lead up to the Games.

Three Russian athletes had been entered into the archery competition:

• INNA STEPANOVA
• TUIANA DASHIDORZHIEVA
• KSENIA PEROVA

World Archery investigated the three athletes’ eligibility to compete.

After confirmation that none of the three athletes had ever been sanctioned for a doping violation and that all three had been tested extensively in the period before the Olympics, World Archery submitted a report on 25 July 2016 to the IOC that endorsed the athletes’ participation in Rio 2016.

This report was then scrutinised and upheld by an IOC Review Panel with the assistance of an arbitrator from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

On 4 August, the IOC approved Stepanova, Dashidorzhieva and Perova’s participation in the archery competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The archery competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games starts on the 5 August in the Sambodromo.
