Park Sehui opens Nimes with Record-Breaking Qualification Score

The previous recurve women’s world record for the 60-arrow qualification at 18 metres was 592, held by Frenchwoman Berengere Schuh since the 2009 World Archery Europe Indoor Championships.

Six years later it was finally broken.

Park, who shoots for Korean professional team LH at this third stage of the Indoor Archery World Cup, posted 297 for her first 30 arrows and followed it up with a second 297 for 594 out of 600 total. Her last two ends were both perfect 30s.

“I’m very happy,” said Park. “My shooting was great in Korea but not so good here, but altogether it produced a good result.”

Many archers have come close to beating the record on the indoor circuit in previous years. Kim Yu Mi tied it at the stage in Telford in 2014 and Olympic silver medallist Aida Roman did the same, in Nimes, in 2015.

Aged 20, Park Sehui’s 594 also increases the junior world record, which stood at 591.

With three qualification sessions left to shoot in Nimes, Park holds a strong inside track to the top seed in the competition. After all, it’ll need another world record to knock her off pole.
