Ten nations awarded individual spots to Rio 2016
Five recurve women representing countries eligible for Rio 2016 individual quota places remained in the fourth round of eliminations at the Copenhagen 2015 World Archery Championships.
Germany, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Ukraine and USA all claimed one Olympic ticket each.
Archers representing six nations without team or indvidual quota spaces lost in the third round of the event and will be invited to compete for the remaining three places available in Copenhagen. Semra Lingard , Laurence Balduff , Olga Senyuk , Karyna Dziominskaya , Guendalina Sartori and Karina Lipiarska will battle for those spots in the secondary event on Friday.
The women have been reseeded according to their qualification results and will compete in a bracket starting from the quarterfinals. Sartori and Lipiarska, as the two highest scorers out of the six on the ranking round, are preseeded into the semifinal.
As there is only one archer from each nation competing, both semifinal winners and the winner of the 3-4 playoff will win the three Olympic spaces.
The recurve men’s event, held later in the afternoon, added five more countries and a second space for Ukraine.
The winners in the third round included archers representing Canada, Colombia, Japan, Indonesia, Ukraine and Venezuela – none of which had already secured the full team quota earlier in the tournament.
Two Olympic spaces remain up for grabs during the Copenhagen worlds. At Friday’s secondary tournament, Md Ruman Shana , Guillermo Aguilar Gimpel , Casper Lauridsen , Florian Kahllund , Christian Weiss , Jon Choi , Riau Ega Agatha , Sadegh Ashrafi , Darren Wallace , Ernesto Horacio Boardman , Dan Olaru , Razvan Marcu and Jonas Lennart Andersson will battle to win those two places for their national teams.
The men’s Olympic secondary tournament will begin from the 1/16 phase and the two semifinal winners will obtain the quota spots.
