Two para records broken at Nove Mesto
On a growing international para world ranking event circuit, Nove Mesto has cemented itself as one of the most popular annual tournaments in the calendar.
In 2015, 146 archers from 24 countries participated in the last event ahead of the World Archery Para Championships in Donaueschingen, which also act as the main qualifier for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Germany’s compound women’s open team set a new world record with 227 points for the 24 arrow match at 50 metres, while Great Britain’s W1 mixed team secured the second record of the competition by shooting 152 points for the 16-arrow match.
Phillip Bottomley, shooting for the Netherlands, announced his return to competition in Nove Mesto winning four elimination matches before losing to Iran’s Ebrahim Ranjbarkivaj in the final.
Bottomley previously represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympics and collected team bronze with the nation at the last para worlds.
Russia took the most medals, with 11 in total, followed by Great Britain on eight and the Czech Republic in third with five.
The 2016 edition of the Nove Mesto tournament will also act as a secondary Paralympic qualifier for Rio.
