Four team world records broken during Yankton qualification
UPDATE: Cadets add to world record tally.
Paige Pearce, Danielle Reynolds and Emily Fischer got their home soil World Archery Youth Championships off to a good start.
The trio all landed in the top 12 in individual qualification and combined set a new world record for the compound junior women’s team ranking round at 50-metres. Their individual totals of 683, 681 and 677 made a team total of 2041.
It was a whopping 24 points more than the previous world-best mark.
The outgoing record of 2017 was shot six years ago at the last World Archery Youth Championships to be held in the USA, when the event visited Odgen, UT.
Colombia, featuring reigning senior Archery World Cup Champion Sara Lopez, also shot more points than the previous world-best mark but trailed the USA group by five overall.
Korea’s recurve junior men also pipped their own record for team qualifying in Yankton.
Landing a point ahead of a record shot in 2001 – far before the 70-metre ranking round was in use at world youth championships – Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Champion Lee Woo Seok and crew set the new bar at 2020.
Woo Seok, who said he came to Yankton to enjoy his time and shoot internationally for the second time, highlighted athletes from the USA, Japan and Chinese Taipei as those he would be keeping an eye on.
Later in the day, the Korean recurve cadet teams – girls and boys – claimed world-best marks previously held by European squads.
The girls had 48 points more than Italy’s previous record and set the new total to beat at 1956 – while the boys pipped the 1989-point best, which was owned by Germany, by five.
