World Archery reveals volunteer reimbursement

Following International Olympic Committee President Dr Thomas Bach’s call for increased transparency among international federations as part of Agenda 2020, World Archery has released its volunteer reimbursement policy.

The roles of World Archery President, Vice Presidents, Board Members and Committee Members are voluntary and do not receive a salary of any kind. The Secretary General role is salaried.

Members of the Executive Board and World Archery Committees receive a CHF 200- mission fee when attending official meetings. Both the World Archery President and Secretary General currently refuse these remunerations.

The accounted total mission fees for the years 2018 and 2019 are as follows:

  • 2018: 9,248.46 CHF (mission fees in Lausanne: 5,613.51 CHF)
  • 2019: 3,209.16 CHF (mission fees in Lausanne: 771.76 CHF)

Executive Board Members and Chairpersons of Committees may obtain CHF 200- per year on request to cover administration and communication expenses.

World Archery Officials and Staff have their travel reimbursed or booked in economy class while the President and Secretary General travel in business class as a general rule. Other travel expenses are reimbursed upon presentation of receipts according to the financial policies.

The World Archery President has an office in Turkey, which also produces the federation’s printed publications. The budget for this office is funded by sponsorship income from Turkey. Since 2007 and in the interests of transparency, the President’s expenses and office budget has been included in full in the federation’s accounts.

Archery’s international governing body employs 14 people at its office in Lausanne; eight of those persons are full-time, six are part-time.

A Finance and Audit Board, comprised of external volunteers, meets regularly throughout the year to evaluate and review the actual expenses against the budget, cash flow situation and World Archery’s budgets, before making regular reports to the World Archery Executive Board.

World Archery’s accounts are externally audited annually in accordance with Swiss Audit Standards. PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) has conducted the audit since 1997 but the actual auditors change on a regular basis.

As part of its Annual Report, World Archery publishes a financial report, which is presented in depth every two years at the federation’s Congress.
