Japan’s recurve women beat top-team Korea at Grand Prix in Chinese Taipei

Japan’s recurve women’s team seized the initiative early in their tilt against Korea on Wednesday. After a first-arrow seven, the Japanese trio didn’t miss the gold.

With millions throughout Chinese Taipei tuning into the Taipei City Asian Grand Prix live on television, HAYAKAWA Ren, Kaori KAWANAKA and Yuki HAYASHI won the gold medal match in straight sets.

“This gives us great confidence,” said Japan’s team manager, who was upbeat about his team’s performance – but remained cautious: “we know Korea will still be strong at home during the Asian Games.”

The same Japanese archers – Ren, Kaori, Yuki and Ayano KATO – will prepare for those Incheon Games using “the same positive strategy that enabled victory” over Korea in Taipei City.

The second leg of the Asian Grand Prix continues with compound and mixed team competition on Thursday and individual finals on Friday.
