Antalya recurve target to watch: number 51

The name you probably won’t recognise on target 51 is Michael JUDD. Making his World Cup debut for Great Britain, the young recurve man is lining up with three more well-known figures in international archery.

For a first-timer, it’s a frankly terrifying target – based on track records alone.

The USA’s Jake KAMINSKI and Rick VAN DER VEN from the Netherlands both have Olympic success under their belts – KAMINSKI had team silver and VAN DER VEN was fourth individually at London 2012 – while Belgian athlete Robin RAMAEKERS is the reigning junior world champion.

European Champion VAN DER VEN also has a nice 18-point total in the World Cup rankings – that sits him in seventh heading into this event – after taking bronze at Shanghai. He crashed out early in Medellin, though, and will need a few more points to be confident in securing a Lausanne spot.

That’s why he’s the favourite on target 51 this morning in Antalya.

Competition at the third 2014 Archery World Cup stage in Antalya runs from 11-15 June. Check event news, and visit World Archery’s Facebook page and @worldarchery on Twitter for coverage.
