The Olympic and Paralympic crossover has always been rare, with a handful of names such as Oscar PISTORIUS, Natalie DU TOIT and Natalia PARTYKA making the jump to able-bodied competition.
However, Neroli FAIRHALL, a name that may not be so familiar to most, arguably made the biggest contribution of them all.
The New Zealand born FAIRHALL, who sadly passed away in 2006, was the first-ever para-athlete to compete in the Olympics when she represented her country at the Los Angeles 1984 Games.
It is now the 30th anniversary of that remarkable year, and since FAIRHALL’s symbolic heroics which seen her elevate to national and worldwide recognition, there has been a further nine athletes to make the Olympic and Paralympic Games crossover, a significant amount considering Neroli was the first in just 1984.
