And then there were four: Nimes eliminations

Australia has a recurve men’s medal. Ryan TYACK and Taylor WORTH face off in one of tomorrow’s semis – and one of the pair will make the gold final.

Reo WILDE has a chance to defend his compound men’s title from 2012 – and 2003, the last Nimes world indoors – if he can beat Stephan HANSEN tomorrow.

Aida ROMAN’s new lucky charms are working. She didn’t lose many sets until meeting Inna STEPANOVA (RUS) today, but nevertheless won that match, too.

Despite none of the highly-touted French and Dutch recurve men making it near the individual finals, the Netherlands team will shoot in semis tomorrow. They beat the French in a quarterfinal shoot-off.

New ranking round world record holder Erika JONES (USA) fell to Naomi JONES (GBR) in the second round. The Brit then lost to Pascale LEBECQUE, who will meet Beijing Olympic medallist Sophie DODEMONT in an all-French semifinal.

The Mexican and USA compound teams were dominant. Both nations’ men and women are shooting in the semis tomorrow.

German duo Carlo SCHMITZ and Maximilian WECKMUELLER upset higher-seeded archers to make the recurve junior men’s final. Special mention to Jan VAN TONGEREN (NED), shooting for bronze at only 15.

First round victims in that junior recurve competition: Arsalan BALDANOV (RUS) and Alex WIFLER (USA), numbers two and four seeds. “I don’t blame myself for what happened,” said WIFLER. “Lucas DANIEL just shot better than me.” Although an excellent compound archer, the American prefers recurve and has the Olympics in sight.

Junior compounder Mario VAVRO won two of his matches by shooting only 10s – including the semifinal against Bridger DEATON (USA), who he deprived of an opportunity to defend his world champion title.
