All-Aussie match-up headlines individual semis
In Taylor WORTH’s first match, he shot nothing but 10s: “I didn’t drop any points, which I was quite happy with – but the second match was a bit sloppy. A couple of points here and there, but I clawed myself back into it.”
Behind again in the quarterfinals, while Ryan TYACK was cruising through a match against pre-event favourite Jean-Charles VALLADONT, WORTH looked all but done. “A couple of mistakes early on put me on the back foot, but I knew I could come back – and if I could at least push it to a shoot-off…”
“I like shoot-offs,” WORTH affirms. “It’s a different part of the game, and one I thrive at.” A pinned 10 confirmed that statement – and set up the all-Aussie semifinal.
“It’s really good to get to shoot against other,” says TYACK. “We’ll both be happy: we’ve both made the final – so whatever happens it’ll be a medal for Australia, and that’s great for us.”
It’s not even weird shooting against a friend, apparently: “You know, if I had to shoot against anyone I’d choose to shoot against him. And that’s not because he’s not better than the rest… but it’s better for me, mentally, than having Viktor or Brady.”
“We’re both quite professional in our approach so we leave it on the field,” agrees WORTH. “As soon as we pack up and walk away the game’s finished.”
In other recurve men’s semifinal, the USA’s Brady ELLISON faces Beijing 2008 Olympic Champion Viktor RUBAN (UKR). Another Ukrainian, Anastasia PAVLOVA, matches-up against London silver medallist Aida ROMAN (MEX), and Miki NAKAMURA (JPN) with Alexandra MIRCA (MDA) in the recurve women’s last four.
It’s Jesse BROADWATER (USA) versus Sergio PAGNI (ITA) and young Dane Stephan HANSEN (DEN) against Reo WILDE (USA) in the compound men’s semis. And French pair Pascale LEBECQUE and Sophie DODEMONT, Jeanine VAN KRADENBURG (RSA) and Christie COLIN (USA) in the women’s event.
