Iraq’s athlete of 2013 is archer ALMASHHADANI
Lausanne (SUI)
The young compound archer finished fifth in the cadet women’s division at the World Archery Youth Championships in Wuxi last October, when she lost in a quarterfinal shoot-off again Alexandra SAVENKOVA of Russia – who went on to win the tournament.
Just two weeks before, Fatimah ALMASHHADANI made the last 32 at the senior worlds. She knocked out European silver medallist Anastasia ANASTASIO (ITA) before coming up just short against Mexico’s Linda OCHOA.
Along with her sister, London 2012 Olympian Rand ALMASHHADANI, Fatimah is pushing archery squarely under the spotlight in a country that’s quickly developing its international athletes in the sport.
