Two new World Records in the team competition

In the 1/8 round the always impressive team Korea set a new world record for the 24-Arrow Final Match in the recurve women division with a 226 score out of a possible 240 (previous WR was 218 set by GBR in Porec two weeks ago).

The quarterfinal matches in the recurve men category gave rise to very exciting matches. Korea and Italy, two of the best nations in this division, were tied in their match on a score of 226. But in the shoot-off (1 arrow each = 3) the Olympic Champion Marco Galiazzo and his teammates lost their nerves while the Koreans shot an excellent 29 score to win the match.

In the semifinals, the British men created a good surprise defeating the favorite Koreans by only one point (220-219). The two teams were tied before the last end (163-163). In the last end, the first two British archers shot perfectly (10-10 and 10-10) while the Koreans both shot 10-9. Before the two arrows by each team, Britain was ahead by two points. The third British archer then shot a 7 (!) while the Korean shot a 10, which gave the lead to Korea by one point. The last arrow would then decide the winner... Great Britain with a 10 put pressure on Korea who shot a final 8! Final score: 220-219 for Britain!

In the compound team later in the morning, the Russian female team set a new World and European Record in their semi-final match against Mexico with a total score of 230 with 24 arrows (previous WR of 225 was hold by USA). This afternoon the Russians will be favorite against Croatia for the gold medal. Mexico and Greece will for their part battle for the bronze.

In the men’s competition, after shooting the best score in the preceding round with 231 points, France broke apart in their semi-final and scored only 219 to lose to a more consistent Netherlands team (226). The other match in the compound men division was very close between Denmark and Great Britain (55-53, 110-110, 165-167 for the first three end), but finally it is the Danish archers who have gained the right to face Netherlands for the gold medal this afternoon (final score was 223-221).

Appointment is made this afternoon (starting at 3 pm local time) for the Gold and Bronze matches in all team divisions at the Antalya Grand Prix!
