Athlete of the Week: Larry GODFREY (GBR)
Lausanne – 1 March 2012
The 35-year-old Larry GODFREY came on the international scene after finishing 4th at the Athens Olympics in 2004. His progress in 2011 has made him one of the British hopefuls for a medal at the London Olympic Games on home soil.
GODFREY is the number one of the British team in the race for the London Olympics. His first Olympic experience was the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, where he made it to the bronze medal match, but missed out by just one point against Australia’s Tim CUDDIHY, 112-113. The British archer also has the experience of the Beijing Olympics, where he suffered first round elimination.
GODFREY progressed significantly in 2011. In July he won a medal at the world level, a mixed team bronze at the Turin World Championships. In December 2011 he won the Face 2 Face UK Tournament in Telford, defeating fellow countryman Alan WILLS in the gold medal final 6-0 (30-29, 30-29, 29-26).
His progress in 2011 has made him one of the host country's hopefuls for a medal in London 2012.
