The 23-year-old Romain GIROUILLE successfully defended his individual title at the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok last weekend. Moreover, the French archer led his team to a convincing victory and has one goal in mind for 2012: the Olympic team gold medal.
Romain GIROUILLE was the star of the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok last weekend. He won the recurve men individual gold medal after defeating the Indian archer Mangal Singh CHAMPIA in a tight final match, ending in a shoot-off, 9-8.
In Thailand, GIROUILLE led the French team made of Gael PREVOST and Jean-Charles VALLADONT to a convincing victory. The Frenchmen defeated the world champion Korea on their way to the final—a remarkable feat considering that they had never beaten that team in in five encounters in recent years. The Frenchmen went on to win the gold medal at the Asian Grand Prix over the strong Indian team, 218-217.
A team silver medallist at the last two World Championships (2009 and 2011), GIROUILLE is hoping to lead France to the Olympic title in London 2012. The 23-year-old archer, who is currently 12th in the World Ranking, is also a contender for an individual medal, twenty years after his compatriot Sebastien FLUTE won the Olympic gold in Barcelona.
