Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification procedure updated ahead of final qualifying tournament

World Archery and the International Olympic Committee have issued an update to the qualification procedure for the archery competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that addresses the possibility of travel restrictions preventing teams from attending the remaining two qualification events.

European archers can qualify individual places at the European Championships taking place in Antalya at the start of June.

Individual and team places are available at the final qualifying tournament, scheduled to take place immediately prior to the third stage of the 2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Paris, France.

Both qualification events will be considered valid if the following criteria, which assesses how many of the countries listed in the preliminary entries can access the event, are met.

• 21 days prior, 50% of countries.
• 14 days prior, 33% of countries.
• 7 days prior, 25% of countries.

The calculation only takes into account countries that are eligible to win places.

Access to the event means athletes are able to enter the host country with a maximum of a one-day quarantine while waiting for on-arrival test results.

The updated procedure confirms that the two places (for one man and one woman) initially assigned to the Oceania continent qualification tournament, which was cancelled, will instead be distributed on the results of the previous continental championships.

Additional processes are now detailed in case either of the remaining qualification tournaments were to be cancelled by the organisers.
