India beats top seed Turkey in compound women’s competition

India will shoot against France for compound women’s team gold at the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup stage in Berlin, Germany – with a chance to take a first title in the discipline in the history of the tour.

India has never won compound women’s team gold on the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit.

“We're very excited because we only got silver in the second stage, so we'll try our best to get gold this time,” said Jyothi Surekha Vennam. “Everyone wants to win the gold, and so do we.”

India beat top-ranked Turkey, 231-228, in the semifinals to make a second final this season, after Antalya.

Eleventh seed France upset Russia and Chinese Taipei.

Individual finalist Sophie Dodemont’s return to the French team has proved buoyant.

“She brings serenity to the team, she is the undisputed leader and she pulls the girls up,” coach Sebastien Brasseur explained.

“She is the boss,” added Amelie Sancenot. “It is she who each time made the closest 10 in shoot-off.”

Chinese Taipei will shoot for the compound women's team bronze medal at the fourth stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday.

The fourth stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Berlin, Germany on 16 to 22 July.
