Italy confirms Olympic and Paralympic archery teams for Paris

The Italian archery federation announced its teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games during a press conference held at Foro Italico in Rome on 5 July.

Mauro Nespoli, Federico Musolesi and Alessandro Paoli are the three men who qualified an Italian team at the recent European Championships and have been retained for the Olympics. They’ll be joined by Chiara Rebagliati, who is appearing at her second Games.

“The level has risen so much, we saw it last year at the world championships and also two weeks ago in Antalya,” said 36-year-old Nespoli, who will become a five-time Olympian when he takes to the field at Invalides.

“We do everything we can to keep up, there is great expectation, ours is a tradition of medals.“

Nespoli has three Olympic podiums to his name: team silver at Beijing 2008, team gold at London 2012 and he was individual runner-up to Mete Gazoz in Tokyo.

“I'm not superstitious so I renew my commitment to everyone,” he added. “We will go to Paris with the aim of winning.“

The nine Italian archers selected for the Paralympic Games are Elisabetta Mijno, Stefano Travisani, Veronica Floreno, Matteo Bonacina, Eleonora Sarti, Asia Pellizzari, Giulia Pesci, Paolo Tonon and Daila Dameno.

The archery competition at the Olympics starts with qualifying on 25 July. Archery at the Paralympics takes place from 29 August to 5 September.
