Tokyo-bound Russian archers officially announced

Russian archers Ksenia Perova, Svetlana Gomboeva, Elena Osipova and Galsan Bazarzhapov will shoot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

They will wear shirts bearing the emblem of the Russian Olympic Committee and the team will be identified only by the acronym ‘ROC’ during the event due to ongoing sanctions against the country’s anti-doping programme.

The women’s trio of Perova, Gomboeva and Osipova is unchanged from this year’s Hyundai Archery World Cup.

Bazarzhapov won the men’s quota place at the final qualifier for the Games in Paris at the end of June, eventually winning gold in that tournament.

Russia was runner-up to Korea, which extended its unbeaten run to eight Games, in the recurve women’s team event at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Perova was on that squad. Her teammates in Tokyo are all making their Olympic debuts.

Perova was also World Archery Champion in 2017.
