Deepika Kumari is an international archer from India who shoots a recurve bow. A four-time Olympian and two-time World Archery Championships silver medallist, Deepika is the most decorated Indian archer and the first Indian archer to rise to the top of the world rankings.
During a glittering youth career, aged 15, she became the first Indian to win the cadet world championships in 2009 going on to claim the junior world title in 2011. Deepika made her senior international debut in 2010 securing team bronze at the Asian Games, going on a year later to clinch her first World Archery Championships medal – team silver.
She is the only female Indian archer to compete at four Games but injury hampered her first two Olympic appearances at London 2012 and Rio 2016. She went on to make the quarterfinals at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
Deepika is a five-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Finals silver medallist – 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2024 – adding to the bronze medal she won in 2018.
Off the field, Kumari married fellow archer Atanu Das in 2020, and the couple welcomed their first child, Vedika, in 2022.
