Preview: Becerra’s first big win coming on home soil?

Hyundai Archery World Cup Final 2024 compound women’s line-up.

The compound women’s line-up at the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final is once again of the finest quality, since no less than the top seven in the current Sanlinda World Ranking have qualified.

The best ever, Sara Lopez, has won the circuit’s grand finale a record eight times and comes as a strong defending champion once again.

Is she the favourite? Sure. The Colombian can always be counted on when it matters.

But with all the best in attendance, it’s a promise of great showdowns, while, contrary to tradition, the women’s competition sessions take place in the afternoon at this year’s Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.

Host Mexico, led by number one seed Andrea Becerra – twice runner-up this year in the first two stages in Shanghai and Yecheon – and Dafne Quintero, both of whom qualified on points, hopes to shine on home soil.

Finals for the compound women in Tlaxcala start at 14h00 (local) on Saturday 19 October. Live stream on archery+.

Line-up

The top two seeds are listed in bold and will be placed at opposite ends of the bracket. A match draw will determine the positions of the other archers.

Andrea Becerra was runner-up to Sara Lopez in Yecheon 2024.

Bold prediction

Andrea Becerra still chasing her first World Cup win.

The Mexican archer podiumed for the first time in 2024, and twice over.

Becerra was first over the 72-arrow qualification at both the opening stage in Shanghai and last stage in Antalya, locking her spot for this year’s Hyundai Archery World Cup Final on points and as the top seed. She finished runner-up in China in April, and later on in Yecheon in May, before losing in quarterfinal in Antalya in June.

Her first-ever big win is long overdue, so why not at the circuit’s grand finale, on home soil, in Mexico?

Rounding out the compound women’s top three entering the Tlaxcala arena – the archer who beat Becerra in the Shanghai final, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and the archer who beat Becerra in the Yecheon final, Sara Lopez.

The trio are clear favourites for the title in 2024.
