World Archery signs agreement with International School Sports Federation
World Archery and the International School Sport Federation have formalised their joint commitment to developing elite sports competitions for young people.
Presidents Prof Dr Ugur Erdener and Laurent Petrynka, joined by World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen, signed a memorandum of understanding between the the two organisations ahead of SportAccord in Birmingham, Great Britain.
“Our most successful members have great school programmes,” said Dielen. “We will assist the school sports federation in the standardisation of rules for younger age groups and this will help integrate these athletes into the competition pathway.”
The organisations will also collaborate on training for technical officials and promotional programmes.
“This partnership marks a significant step towards promoting archery in schools and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and camaraderie among students worldwide,” added Petrynka.
Archery will next feature on the programme of the World School Sport Games – also known as the Gymnasiade – in Bahrain in late 2024, with a full programme of recurve and compound events for the first time, plus the mixed nation mixed team used at previous Youth Olympic Games.
