Home from home? Parnat into finals at Lausanne Challenge

Reena Parnat is into a final four at home – one home, at least.

The 29-year-old Olympian, who became the first archer from Estonia to win a match at the Games when she made the second round at Tokyo 2020, is a resident athlete at the World Archery Excellence Centre – which is hosting the first event on this year‘s Indoor Archery World Series.

“It’s obviously a bit emotional to shoot here,” she said. “It feels great and I’m very happy that we have the first event of the indoor season in Lausanne.”

Parnat has put herself into a semifinal against top qualifier Laura van der Winkel tomorrow.

Winning that match would guarantee her best-ever result indoors, beating the bronze medal she collected in Marrakesh back in 2017.

“I’m not a big fan of shooting indoors normally because [the matches] are always so close, you never know what’s going to happen,” she continued. “You can lose the first set but win the rest. Or the other way around. You never know.”

All three of Reena’s matches at this event, so far, have been long. She’s shot 14 (of a possible 15) sets.

Her chances tomorrow?

“I always expect to be the best archer I can be.”

Competition continues at the Lausanne Classic with finals on Sunday, with all four of the top seeds – van der Winkel, Steve Wijler, Mathias Fullerton and Bayley Sargeant Buden – remaining in the tournament.
