Top 5: Best photos from the first stage of the 2022 Hyundai Archery World Cup
The international season is officially underway with the first stage, in Antalya, catapulting some members of the elite archery community into the conversation – and leaving others searching for answers ahead of the second stop in Gwangju.
Whatever the result, good or bad, the critical moments were expertly captured by World Archery’s official photographer, Dean Alberga.
Dean takes us through five images he captured and gives us a little insight into why he liked them so much. If you like the selection, check the full photo albums on the event page – Antalya 2022 Hyundai Archery World Cup – on the World Archery website.
1) Mister Perfect
Hats off to Mike Schloesser for doing it yet again. Collecting a seventh stage title on the Hyundai Archery World Cup has him well on his way to becoming one of the all-time winningest on the circuit.
I tip my hat to his accomplishments so far. A legend already.
2) A cat’s life
Getting comfortable and staying out of the sun was essential in Turkey.
This stray cat got a bit too comfortable on one of the bowcases on the field of play but nobody minded at all.
3) Unmissable moment
I don’t know who is happier in this photo? After winning the shoot-off for a spot in the recurve women's individual semifinal, Laura van der Winkel gave herself the opportunity to send off her departing coach with one last medal. She went on to win silver in the end.
4) Make love not war
This doesn’t need an explanation. Read this if you want one.
5) Finally
One of the rising stars in the world of archery, Ella Gibson’s been edging closer to her first big win. In Antalya, she finally got there. She raised her hands in celebration after the judge’s final call, which confirmed her first major victory and her ticket to the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Tlxacala, Mexico later this year.
