Former Mexican archer Linda Ochoa-Anderson to shoot for USA in 2020

Former Mexican international archer Linda Ochoa-Anderson will make her return to the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit in 2020 – but this time shooting for the USA.

The 32-year-old has been married to States archer Steve Anderson since 2015. She lives in the USA and has not competed internationally for Mexico since the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final at the end of 2018, where she finished second.

Under World Archery rules, athletes must take a 12-month hiatus from international events to change national teams.

Linda made her international debut at the World Archery Championships in 2003 and had been a regular face on the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit since its introduction in 2006. She reached a career-high of number two in the compound women’s world rankings in May 2016.

Her addition to the USA squad adds more strength to a team that finished second at the Hyundai World Archery Championships in 2019. The group also returns world number one Alexis Ruiz and world individual silver medallist Paige Pearce.

Youth world medallist Savannah Vanderwier also joins for 2020.

World number one Braden Gellenthien, Matt Sullivan, Reo Wilde and Kris Schaff comprise the USA’s compound men’s line-up for next season.

World champion Brady Ellison, Youth Olympic Champion Trenton Cowles, Jack Williams, Tom Stanwood, Casey Kaufhold, Mackenzie Brown, Erin Mickelberry and Alex Zuleta-Visser were named to the recurve teams.

Linda Ochoa-Anderson is not the only Mexican archer to have switched national teams in recent years.

Gabriela Bayardo represented Mexico at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and moved to the Netherlands during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. She qualified the Dutch squad a place to Tokyo 2020 and came third at the 2019 European Games in Minsk.
