World Archery launches first Spanish language highlights

World Archery has launched its first Spanish-specific broadcast highlights packages following the first stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China, with a view to maximising audiences built in Latin and South America over recent years.

“Archery has seen consistent growth worldwide, but a particular surge in interest across emerging regions of the Americas,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.

“Adding Spanish language to some of our most-used productions is a simple way of engaging stronger with these communities, which are already passionate about archery content.”

Spanish speakers comprise over 20% of the federation’s online audience.

Many individuals following the sport come as a direct result of the stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup held in Colombia from 2013 to 2016, or the two successful tournaments in Mexico City – the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in 2015 and World Archery Championships in 2017.

The ongoing success of athletes like Olympic silver medallist Aida Roman and world number one Sara Lopez have also provided engaging region-specific stories.

World Archery produces compound and recurve 26-minute highlight programmes from each stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup and World Archery Championships.

The new Spanish-language versions of the programmes are available to television stations free-of-charge in territories without existing broadcast deals.

It is hoped that the initiative will lead to greater public exposure for international tournaments and continue the upward trajectory of interest in archery in some of the sport’s key developing regions.
