The organisers of the Birmingham 2022 World Games have announced that Avondale Park will host the target archery and field archery competitions.

A large public green space on the slopes of Red Mountain, the diverse park should prove an exciting challenge for field archers while offering excellent access to spectators attending both events.

Field archery has featured on the programme of the World Games since 1985.

It initially included the recurve and barebow bowstyles until compound was added in 1993. The compound competition was transformed into a target archery event in 2013.

The next World Games were initially scheduled to take place in 2021 but delayed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The reigning field archery champions at the World Games are Amedeo Tonelli, Lisa Unruh, Istvan Kakas and Cinzia Noziglia. The reigning target archery champions are Stephan Hansen, Sara Lopez and the Danish compound mixed team.

City parks director Shonae Eddis-Bennett said: “Avondale Park is one of the best recreational areas our community has to offer, making it a perfect venue for the World Games.”
