Koreans dominate again at the Asian Games in Doha Doha - 11 December 2006 photo © FITA Park Sung Hyun and Yun Ok Hee continued Korea’s impressive record in Asian Games archery by winning the gold and silver respectively in the women's individual event at Lusail Shooting Complex.
Olympic champ Park shot well against her compatriot in the final match, securing the final when she scored 27 during the third end to open an eight-point lead.
The 23 year-old’s eventual 95-91 win gave her a first individual gold in Asian Games competition and the gold was her country's sixth from eight individual Asian Games events since Bangkok 1978. The one-two finish marks the fifth time Korea have achieved this feat.
Park said of the conditions: “We had known about the wind so we had trained and prepared for this condition in expectation of that. I am really happy that two Koreans were in the final, and I am grateful to all the archery supporters.
“We can't just settle for the individuals but will train for and concentrate on the upcoming team event. It is now one less weight on our shoulders because we have the individual's [medals].
“As an experienced archer, I have the responsibility of keeping the lead [she is the World number one], and it will be so until our younger archers take the lead.”
Silver medallist Yun said: “Every time I have competed against Sung Hyun I have lost against her. It's only natural because she is experienced. For the team event, Sung Hyun will lead us and I will support her.”
In the bronze-medal playoff, Zhao Ling of China defeated Dola Banerjee of India by six points in a low-scoring match.
Earlier in the elimination rounds, defending Asian Games champion, Yuan Shu Chi of Chinese Taipei, was beaten by Urantungalag Bishindee of Mongolia, who finished a lowly 46th in the qualification round and went on to reach the quarterfinals.   Source: Dagoc 2006   For the results, click here More on www.dohaasiangames.org
