British hosts announce European Championships team

The tournament runs in Nottingham, UK from 23 to 29 May.

The three recurve women selected for the championships are Olympians Amy Oliver and Naomi Folkard, plus Bryony Pitman, who competed at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014.

The recurve men’s steam consists of triple Olympian Larry Godfrey, Patrick Huston, who recently won gold at the Marrakesh Indoor Archery World Cup stage last winter season, and promising young archer Kieran Slater.

The will be joined by a compound team – announced last month – of Duncan Busby, Adam Ravenscroft, Neil Bridgewater, Daisy Clark, Naomi Jones and Andrea Gales.

Ravenscroft took bronze at the World Archery Championships in Copenhagen in 2015.

The British team will compete against hundreds of archers for European titles and – importantly – continental quota places to the Olympic Games in Rio. Great Britain is currently without a place after receiving the full six for London as host nation.

Nations can collect a maximum of one male and one female places to Rio at the event, in a special qualification tournament held on Friday 27 May, ahead of finals on 28 and 29.

Archery GB Performance Director David Tillotson said: “Shooting in front of a home crowd will be a familiar experience to some of our Olympians from 2012, however for the younger members of the team this will be an opportunity for them to embrace a home tournament and having the crowd behind them.”
