The European Tournament of Nimes Concludes

The Tournament of Nimes Concludes Nimes – 25 January 2010   Over 1200 archers competed in the 13th edition of the Tournament of Nimes (France) that took place from 22-24 January. The French women dominated the event with victories from Berengere SCHUH and Christelle GARITAT in recurve and compound, respectively, while on the men's side the top spots went to Michele FRANGILLI (ITA) and Jesse BROADWATER (USA).   Recurve Men In the gold medal final the 2004 Olympic champion Marco GALIAZZO (ITA) met his experienced compatriot Michele FRANGILLI. GALIAZZO shot nine 10s in a row to lead FRANGILLI 90-89 before the last end. The Olympic champion then shot a bad 9 while the other Italian managed a perfect 30. GALIAZZO needed a 10 in his last arrow to finish in a tie. But he scored a 9… Victory for FRANGILLI! Damien PIGEAUD (FRA) took the bronze medal after eliminating the 1992 Olympic champion Sebastien FLUTE in 1/8 finals and the no 1 seed from qualifications Brady ELLISON (USA).   Recurve Women The top favourite Berengere SCHUH (FRA) dominated this division from the beginning to the end, to the delight of the crowd. As expected, Berengere qualified in 1st place and won all her elimination matches into the gold medal final. There she shot a perfect score of 120 to defeat the 17-year-old Russian world team member Tatiana SEGINA (116). Over 2000 spectators cheered as Berengere clinched the victory for the third time in this event. Berengere was particularly happy to win this tournament in the city where she won her first major crown, the 2003 world indoor title. For bronze, another French archer, Marina NAYROLE, beat Jessica TOMASI (ITA).   Compound Men The final was 100% American in this division. The 2009 world indoor runner-up Jesse BROADWATER defeated the multiple world indoor and outdoor team champion Braden GELLENTHIEN. The bronze medal went to France: last year's champion Pierre Julien DELOCHE won his final match against the 2007 world outdoor champion Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN).    Compound Women The crowd was delighted by a second French victory on the women's side! Christelle GARITAT defeated Amalia STUCCHI in the gold medal final. Sandrine CANTIN (FRA) beat the 2007 world outdoor champion Eugenia SALVI (ITA) in quarterfinals and went on to clinch the bronze against Japan's Yumiko HONDA.   FITA Communication   Results Recurve Men  Recurve Women  Compound Men  Compound Women    More info on the website of the organisers: www.arcclubdenimes.com/tournoi-europeen/en/   FITA Communication
