Paralympic Committee launches ‘PLY’ post-nominal letters

The International Paralympic Committee has announced that Paralympians can now add the letters ‘PLY’ after their names in recognition of their important contribution to the Paralympic movement.

Post-nominal letters – like PhD or MD – indicate a position, honour or degree.

The PLY initiative for Paralympians mirrors that of OLY for Olympians, which started in 2019. The letters can be used in any context, from official documentation to social media, bringing attention to their achievements on the highest sporting stage.

“To be a Paralympian is to be part of an elite club and only around 28,000 people can claim to be one,” said International Paralympic Committee president Andrew Parsons.

“As an athlete-centred organisation, we believe it is important to recognise all para athletes who have devoted years to training and have made huge sacrifices to reach the Paralympic Games, which is the pinnacle sporting event.”

Paralympic archers are encouraged to check their eligibility and complete the online registration form. Approved applications are accompanied by an official certificate of recognition.
