No change to Olympic archery competition schedule following 1-year delay of Tokyo 2020

Tokyo 2020 released an updated competition schedule for the upcoming Olympics on Friday, taking into account any changes caused by the 12-month delay of the Games.

Archery, like the rest of the Olympics, will start one day earlier in the year – on 23 July 2021, rather than 24 July 2020 – but otherwise remains unaltered. The venue and format of the events will stay as initially planned.

As is customary, the qualification round will be held on the day of the opening ceremony.

Three days of team events will follow, the first of which will feature the debut of mixed team competition at the Olympics.

The individual events take five days to complete: three days of preliminary matches before a women’s final, followed by a men’s final.

Aside from the additional day scheduled at the start of the competition week, the format of the Olympic archery programme has remained unchanged since London 2012. The previous Olympics, held in Beijing in 2008, had two competition fields running side-by-side; subsequent Games have only utilised one.

The remainder will be distributed in 2021.

Continental qualification tournaments in the Americas, Oceania and Europe; the final world qualifier; and universality invitations have yet to be decided.

The Olympic archery competition at Tokyo 2020 will see 128 recurve archers – 64 men and 64 women – compete for five gold medals.
