KBS and World Archery sign 3-year rights agreement for Korea

World Archery and Korean national broadcaster KBS have agreed a three-year media rights agreement for exclusive Korean coverage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit and World Archery Championships on the national broadcaster’s linear and internet platforms.

The agreement runs from 2018 through to the end of 2020, covering the lead-up and qualification period for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

KBS will also televise the stage of the new Indoor Archery World Series in the Korean capital of Seoul, the Seoul Open, working with World Archery to activate domestic interest in a sport in which the country is internationally successful.

Korea has been the leading nation in archery since hosting the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.

Korean recurve man Kim Woojin and recurve woman Chang Hye Jin are currently ranked number one in the world and the nation collected five of the 10 available world titles, across both Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines, at the last World Archery Championships in Mexico City in 2017.

World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener said: “Korean athletes are admired worldwide for their talent and precision in competition, and we’re proud to work with such an experienced broadcaster to give greater exposure at home for the team’s achievements abroad.”
