Lopez adds ranking round world record to collection
Twenty-year-old Sara Lopez won the 2014 Archery World Cup Finals, beating out the USA’s Erika Jones in the final of archery’s international circuit in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne.
The 15-arrow match world record holder – with a perfect 150 – added another accolade to her collection.
Only 14 of the Colombian international’s arrows landed outside of the 10-ring during her record-breaking 72-arrow round. She did not miss the gold. Her 706 mark was two points more than the previous world record, held by the the same person she beat in Lausanne, Erika Jones.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me out today,” wrote Lopez on Facebook. “Risaralda leads the compound women’s and men’s national selections!”
Risaralda is the federal sports area Sara represents.
The strong performance put her in the driving seat in the compound women’s Colombian team trials. Camilo Cardona’s 701 topped the compound men.
Sara led Paris 2013 Archery World Cup Final winner Alejandra Usquiano and Maja Marcen over the ranking round.
Lopez, Usquiano and Marcen won the compound women’s team competition at the last World Archery Championships in Belek, Antalya in 2013.
Barring something unusual, the trio will likely be in Copenhagen to defend their title – and Lopez will have a chance to repeat her World Cup crown.
