Lancaster recurve team takes top spot in Indoor World Series rankings after Rome

Brady Ellison may have fallen to Marco Galiazzo in the recurve men’s final at the 2019 TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy but his silver, coupled with teammate Jack Williams’ bronze, has pushed the Lancaster Archery Supply squad into the top spot in the Indoor Archery World Series recurve team rankings.

“I can only be happy with the start this season,” said Ellison after his final. “This weekend in Rome was tough – and in the final match I just shot too many nines.”

The indoor team competition combines the individual results of team members to give a team result at each event.

Lancaster has accrued 400 points over the GT Open and Rome. Casey Kaufhold, the third team member, took 125 of those with bronze in Luxembourg and the remaining 275 came from the two podium finishers at the Roma Archery Trophy.

Shibuya RC moved up to second in the recurve rankings, largely thanks to Kang Chae Young’s victory in Italy.

That pushed Beiter’s Florian Kahllund, Cedric Rieger and Elena Richter down to third.

TRUBAll/Axcel retained the top spot in the compound team rankings with Mike Schloesser, Kris Schaff and Alexis Ruiz adding 165 more points to their overall total in Rome.

The competition uses each team’s three best results over the course of the season – and with this last haul being the lowest so far, it will be the first to be dropped when bigger results are recorded.

Performance Archery and Shibuya CP held firm in the second and third spots after event number three of the indoor circuit.

Shibuya CP’s 290 points stand as the team’s largest total from a tournament so far, with 250 of them coming from Dave Cousins’ gold medal in the compound men’s competition.

“In 25 years as a pro, I’ve never been so nervous during matchplay and it’s due to all the great champions here in Rome,” he said. “I’m really happy to be here in Italy… and now I can celebrate this gold medal, too.”
