World #1, world champion join Mathews team for Indoor Series

Braden Gellenthien and Tanja Jensen will collect the first points for team Mathews on the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series at the circuit’s next stop in Rome this weekend.

Third team member – and reigning World Archery Champion – James Lutz won’t shoot the TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy. He will attend the Nimes Tournament in January, though.

Gellenthien, Jensen and Lutz are all ranked top-10 in the world.

The Indoor Archery World Series team competition is open to companies, clubs, nations and other groups. It combines team members’ individual results into a team result – which is then used to rank squads over the course of the season.

Mathews is a bow and accessory manufacturer headquartered in Sparta, USA. Founded in 1992, it became famous for its signature solocam technology over the following decade and is now renowned as a producer of high-performance competition gear.

Braden Gellenthien is the world’s number one ranked compound man. He came second at the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Moscow, Russia – having qualified by winning the stage in Shanghai. (He also finished second in Shanghai.) He won two Indoor Archery World Series events last season: the Roma Archery Trophy and Nimes Tournament.

James Lutz had a debut international season for the ages in 2019. He won his first competition, the Hyundai Archery World Cup stage in Antalya, and then remained unbeaten internationally on his way to the world title in ’s-Hertogenbosch. He ends the year ranked world number five.

Tanja Jensen came third at the Indoor Archery World Series Finals in 2019. The world number 10 has, in fact, medalled at three consecutive circuit-ending events indoors – dating back to the tour’s previous incarnation as the Indoor World Cup.

The 2020 Indoor Archery World Series includes six events. The Macau Open and GT Open were held in November 2019. The series next moves to the TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy on 14-15 December.

Teams consist of three athletes shooting either recurve or compound, must be mixed-gender and cost 240 CHF to enter. World Archery has guaranteed a minimum prize purse of 5000 CHF.

Registrations for the team event are being accepted until the Nimes Archery Tournament on 17-19 January 2020. The entry form is available online. Points are accrued from the time of entry and not backdated.

The Indoor Archery World Series is a collection of mass-participation and elite tournaments held in destination cities around the world.
