Chinese Taipei team favourite after three recurve women seed top 8

Chinese Taipei’s Tan Ya-Ting, Lei Chien-Ying and Peng Chia-Mao finished first, third and eighth over the recurve women’s ranking round in Antalya to take the top seed in the team event at the third stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup.

“This season has gone very quickly,” said Ya-Ting. “When I stop shooting for a moment I get nervous, but I’m excited to get back into it.”

“My score here was pretty normal, I suppose. It was definitely better than practice, though. The feeling was strong – and this is a good place to shoot.”

The world number four rallied well after a poor start to the second half of qualification. 

She shot a pair of eights and a seven in that seventh end for 50 points. They were the last arrows in the red that Tan would have, shooting three 58s and two 57s to claw her score for the back 36 arrows up to 338. It gave her 671 in total and the lead by one.

Russia’s Elena Osipova was second, Tan’s Chinese Taipei teammate Lei third. Both had 670 points and 30 10s, but Osipova nailed 15 Xs to Lei’s eight.

Meng Fanxu, Inna Stepanova, An Qixuan, Peng and Elia Canales seeded fourth to eighth.

Indian pair Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi Laishram both scored 658 points for the 72-arrow round to come in ninth and 10th.

There was a top-104 cut for matchplay of 562 points.

Chinese Taipei also ranked first in the mixed team event, Tan pairing with 14th-seeded recurve man Tang Chih-Chun to combine for 1345 points.

The third stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place on 20-26 May in Antalya, Turkey.
