Quota places finalised for 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games

The remaining 18 quota places for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games – which are being held in Barranquilla, Colombia on 28 July to 3 August – were awarded at the final qualifier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on 8 April.

Trinidad and Tobago qualified six places, Guadeloupe and Barbados three each, and two went to the US Virgin Islands; Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and El Salvador all secured one spot.

“I plan to continue training hard to win a medal,” said 15-year-old Paola Corado, El Salvador’s qualifier in the compound women’s event, who is coached by experienced international archer Roberto Hernandez.

“All she needs now is competition exposure,” said Hernandez.

Twelve countries competed at the 2014 edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico; 14 have qualified in 2018.

It is the second time a qualification system has been implemented, with 100 total spaces available.

The oldest regional multisport event on the planet, the Central American and Caribbean Games were first held in Mexico City in 1926. Archery was first included in Havana, Cuba in 1982 and has remained a part of the programme ever since.
